We have all been there! You know you need to work out and head to the gym, but you just can’t get your butt to move off of the couch. The struggle is real! We are so bogged down on a daily basis by other life obligations it just makes it so hard to fit in a workout. Between work, family, friends, and just life in general it’s sometimes amazing to me I can find time to sleep, much less go to the gym for an hour. I get so tired from the everyday grind that going to the gym is the last thing I want to do.
So what do I do on days like this? Here are a few ways I find some motivation and get my booty moving:
Get a pep talk: My husband is very good at this! Having someone give you a little pep talk and remind you of why you should fit in a work out can be very motivating. My husband usually reminds me of how great I feel after a workout. Which is true! I always feel more energized and alive after spending some time in the gym. Do you have someone who can help muster up a little motivation? Ask someone close to you to keep you accountable. Tell them you are struggling to make the time to get a work out in and would really love their support. Who knows? Maybe they will join you. Having a workout buddy is also very helpful and motivating.
Put on my workout clothes: Sometimes just the act of putting on my workout gear gets me motivated to head to the gym. I mean, I have the clothes on, I might as well go work out now. Try putting on your clothes with no other expectations. If you still aren’t feeling motivated then try another motivation tip. But once you start the process, you instinctively want to keep going until you finish a workout.
Timing my workouts: I am such a morning person! Working out in the mornings is usually the best way to get myself to the gym. The longer the day goes by the less motivated I am. Find a time during the day you feel most energized and plan to work out at that time. If you aren’t a morning person like me, then stick to a workout schedule in the evenings. There is no right or wrong time. You just have to find the right time for you.
Creating an awesome playlist: I have to have music to workout to. It really gets me pumped up and helps me to work hard during my workouts. Find some songs that really get you fired up and moving. If you are struggling to get yourself to the gym, then listen to a few songs and see if you can get your blood pumping and your feet moving out the door and to the gym!
Finding a workout I love: I really love to dance! So if I’m not feeling motivated to go to the gym then I can turn on some music and dance the calories away! Finding something you love to do that helps get your heart pumping and muscles moving is very motivating. You don’t have to go to the gym and spend an hour on the treadmill if you hate it! That can be very demotivating and keep you from your fitness goals. Find the activity that brings a smile to your face. Something you love to do no matter how tired or unmotivated you are feeling. The more you love to do something the more motivated you are to do it!
These are just a few ways I keep myself motivated and on the right track. But I know there are plenty of other ways to stay motivated. What do you think? What do you do when you are feeling tired and wanting to skip your workout for the day? Let me know in the comments below!
